Monegasque football is about to write a new chapter in its history with the recent creation of Monaco United Football Club — an ambitious project whose heartbeat is firmly set on developing women’s football in the Principality. This new player on the local sports scene places women at the center of its vision, with a clear determination to build a structured, longterm, and deeply committed initiative.
And to embody this dynamic from its very first season, the club has chosen to entrust the reins of its women’s team to Marco Simone, President and Founder of Monaco United, who will also take on, starting today, the role of Head Coach.

A former iconic player for AS Monaco, as well as for AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, Marco Simone is thus returning to the sidelines, reconnecting with the pitch and direct sporting management after several coaching experiences in France and

The former Italian international assures: his involvement in women’s football is not a discovery, but a deep conviction.

The Creation of the Squad
Deeply attached to the Principality, where he left a lasting mark on the history of AS Monaco, Marco Simone sees this mission as a natural extension of his journey. By creating Monaco United with the valuable support of the RACING CITY GROUP, he aimed to build a club rooted in the local community but forward-looking, with women’s football as its cornerstone.
In this spirit, the club recently held two open days. “The first was designed to introduce our MONACO UNITED project, to present it to everyone who attended, and to promote the values we want to uphold — especially among the youth,” Marco Simone explains. “The second focused on women’s scouting. Several of the players who took part in that day have been selected to join the first-ever squad in the club’s history.” Two days, therefore, with two complementary approaches.
Marco Simone notes that these initiatives are only the beginning:
“Other sessions will be organized in the future, even more targeted — notably for the senior women’s team. But also to give young female and male players a chance to gradually become part of the MONACO UNITED project, to develop the academy, and to build competitive youth teams around them.”
The players joining this 2025/2026 senior women’s squad have also been recruited through an extensive international scouting network, especially in France, Italy, Spain, Latin America, and Africa. More information about the players will be revealed in the coming weeks.
High Ambitions
The sporting project is ambitious, and Marco Simone makes no secret of it:
“We want to compete for promotion from this first season.” The club also aims to perform well in the French Women’s Cup while setting up a program of international friendly matches. “These matches against more experienced and better-equipped clubs at this stage will allow the team to face a higher level of competition, to learn, to grow… and to move forward in the right direction.”
The objective is clear: to lay the foundation for a structure ready to develop over the long term. Because yes, the recent creation of MONACO UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB means the team must start at the bottom of the ladder (D5), with the goal of quickly climbing the national ranks. “It’s an exciting project, full of new beginnings. It’s about building a solid club that will write the very first page of its history this season. With the desire to bring together a stable, coherent, and sustainable squad, united by a common purpose… to improve over time and ultimately reach the highest level. Everything is in place to make the coming season a defining chapter.”
The official competition calendar will be announced in the coming days. But the tone is already set: Monaco United Football Club fully intends to quickly establish itself as a key player in women’s football — in Monaco and beyond…
